NIPOMO CSD SCAM ALERT – DECEMBER 13, 2024
People are impersonating Nipomo Community Services District employees, claiming that the District’s water is contaminated. The District received multiple reports of one or more individuals claiming to be District employees in order to gain entry into residents’ homes to test the water. These individuals are advising people to not use the water without treating it first. They may then scare or pressure residents to install expensive water treatment equipment.
If someone visits your home claiming they need to test your water, DO NOT LET THEM IN!
Steps to Protect Yourself
- Verify the identity of the employee. All District employees wear our logo on their uniforms, and drive marked District vehicles with California exempt license plates. Call the District directly at (805) 929-1133 to verify whether the person is actually an employee of the District, and if any work is scheduled for your address. Remember, District employees will not do ANY work inside your home.
- Do Not Give Out Personal Information. Never give out your Social Security number, bank account numbers, or payment information to anyone who comes to your door or calls claiming to be from the District.
- Do Not Pay. District employees will never accept or solicit payments at your residence, online, or via phone call or text. You can contact the District directly at (805) 929-1133 to verify whether your account has a balance, and to confirm authorized ways to make payment.
Trust Your Instincts. Report any incidents immediately by phone to:
- Nipomo Community Services District (805) 929-1133
- San Luis Obispo County Sheriff (805) 781-4540
