Cross-Connection Control, Backflow Prevention, and Water Quality

What is a cross-connection?

Cross-connections are actual or potential connections between a potable water supply and a non-potable water source.

What is backflow?

Backflow is the unintended reversal of water flow through a cross-connection, which can result in a potentially serious public health hazard. Essentially, the water from your property, possibly contaminated, is flowing back into the District’s water system, and this can threaten the safety of our water supply.

How does backflow happen?

A backflow condition happens when the water pressure in our distribution system drops, causing water to be pulled into the system from a cross-connection
